Why I Hate Pugs

Back to work today to start a new week! I generally work the afternoon shift, so there were already several animals in the treatment area by the time I got there: a pair of black Lionhead rabbits (drop-offs*), a cat with a leg injury, an extremely lethargic and sick cat, and a pug with probable kidney disease that had been with us through the weekend.

Which leads me to today's topic of discussion. We've been seeing a lot of pugs at the hospital lately, fortunately mostly for routine exams. For some reason, everyone seems to think that they are the most adorable little creatures to ever bless us with their presence—everyone, that is, except for me.

This is how everyone else apparently sees pugs.

I am a tiny and adorable creature, please love me.

This is how I see pugs.

herp derp

Now before I get slammed by pug-lovers, which seem to number in the tens of billions, let me explain my rationale. All modern dog breeds are descended from gray wolves that were domesticated roughly 15,000 years ago. Since then, they have been selectively bred to exhibit an astounding variety of physical and temperamental traits.

The relationship of dogs and humans is one of mutual exchange and benefit. Dogs provide us with some form of specialized work or service that we are incapable of providing ourselves, and in return, we provide dogs with food and shelter, which, likewise, they are unable to provide themselves. The vast majority of modern dog breeds adhere to this time-honored symbiosis by protecting us, hunting with us, herding our sheep, getting rid of pests, or even fetching and carrying things for us.

And then there are the toy dogs. As their name implies, they are small. And, as their name also implies, they exist solely for our amusement. They have been refined and pruned over thousands of generations to look as un-wolfish and ridiculous as possible. The quest for their convenient lap-warming size has twisted their proportions, shrinking down their entire physical structure, except for their brains and, for some reason, their eyeballs.

Their poor, poor faces have been squashed beyond all recognition, collapsing their sinus cavity in on itself, and removing the natural buffer between what they stick their nose in (which is everything) and their already bulging eyes. I've seen pugs at our hospital with eyes that have become so dry that they thicken and scale up and become completely clouded over and useless. They're prone to life-threatening infections. One of our regular pugs had to have his eye completely removed because it was such a problem. And even if their eyes are healthy, they're always pointing in completely different directions and look utterly ridiculous.

Please sir, can I have a real face?

Because pugs are brachycephalic, they are prone to breathing difficulties. I don't think I've ever seen a pug that is not constantly making some kind of horrific snorting or sucking noise as it tries to breathe. Now, think back to the last time you laughed so hard you started snorting. Or if you've ever gotten any kind of liquid up your nose. It was kind of unpleasant, wasn't it? Pugs are cursed to doing that for their entire life. Every moment of every day they are struggling to breathe, even in their sleep. I've never met a  pug that wasn't constantly choking on its own epiglottis. And because their mouths are too small for their tongues, they're forced to wander around with their cracked and lifeless tongue hanging out forever.

Pugs also have terrible, terrible skin issues. The folds around their faces and their paws are prone to chronic bacterial and fungal infections. They tend to drag their feet, so any time they take a step on pavement, they're making direct contact with the ground without the protection of their paw pads. We're currently treating a pug who drags his back foot so badly that he's developed a huge, thick scab covering an infected wound that goes halfway up to his tarsus and his toenail is completely gone. The area is so degraded that it's beginning to impact the metatarsal bone, and eventual amputation of the digit and perhaps the entire limb is a very real possibility.

People say they like pugs for their personality. I have yet to meet a pug with any sort of personality. They just wiggle. Constantly. They get up in your face and snort on you and wiggle. Then they do a lap around the room and come right back and snort and wiggle some more. They seem like they're constantly in a panic. Maybe because they can't breathe.

I feel sorry for pugs. They didn't ask to be the way they are. But I can't help feeling a little bit of resentment for pug owners. By buying pugs, they're just contributing to the breeding of more miserable, gross little pugs who have to suffer through 10 years of health problems, and also 10 years of pug owners.

Dear god, why me?

But hey, at least they keep us in business, right?

* By "drop-offs" I mean that they were dropped off by their owner in the morning instead of coming in at an appointed time. We generally perform exams on the drop-offs sometime during the day, and give them baths, pedicures, or anything else they might need done, and then their owners pick them back up again in the evening. It's an important distinction, since the only other animals we keep in the treatment area are those that are "hospitalized," which usually means they're there prior to or after surgery, or are sick enough that they need constant care and monitoring.

    3. It's not the poor dogs fault! The Kennel Club, greeting card businesses, breeders and potential owners are to blame.
Brachycephalic dog breeds (among others) look totally different to how they were 100 years ago. So sad that this legal cruelty is allowed to continue but, as long as there's a market for freak canines, the abuse will continue.

    4. I simply sensed something wrong and unnatural with my friends pug, and ive always wondered why they look so like.. in pain or something. as though they were a mistake. I appreciate this insight as its helped me to understand why I feel this way about the hiddeous little guy. To me they look like a good sci fi creature from some distant place, and their behavior is far from acceptable as he rushes to my food before i can even take a bite. i have to eat in a completely diffrrent room, and it cantcseem to take any orders or direction other than sit, then he gets right backbup in my face again, dang you! ok im just ranting now lol.

    7. And you know what? You're absolutely right! It just seems that everybody on the internet is like "Pugs shouldn't even exist, if you buy one, you're automatically a dog abuser blah blah blah...", but what is totally insane is that there are dogs with bigger health problems, but no one gives a crap about them as long pugs exist. I absolutely agree with you, pugs are adorable and sweet and if you take care about them properly, they are also healthy (although if their snout was a little longer, I won't have any objections). For me, bigger problem are those breeds made for those dog fights or what are they called. I'm so sorry for ranting, because I hate it, but this pisses me off so damn much and I guess I just had to vent somwhere

  2. A+ on summarizing why I have such a problem with the smashface dogs (and cats!). If you have the time, you should go to YouTube and search for the BBC documentary "Pedigree Dogs Exposed" (there's also a follow-documentary of "Pedigree Dogs Exposed: Three Years Later").

In fact, after reading over the posts you've made so far, I've taken the reader leap of faith and added to your feed to my RSS reader so I can receive your updates as soon as they get published.

    2. Pugs also cannot entertain themselves. They don't have the physical play instincts and curiosity of most other breeds. If you put a bunch of nice dogs in a big yard full of toys to play, they sort themselves out, meet each other, and embark on adventures. Except the pugs, who'd either clamor for human attention... Or angrily yip at the other dogs. There was some study done by someone that mind if proved good. The objective was to demonstrate that the furthest deviations from "wolves" had the fewest canine instincts, and they the breeds that maintained the most wolf like physical attributes retained the most natural instincts. The study was interesting and has caused me to notice dogs differently. Anyway the pug proved to be the stand out of the study, they were almost without canine instincts, which include self-entertainment (which was big point for her because she noticed bigger breeds didn't get lonely and weren't as needy - - like wolves), social skills, trsinability, focus, etc....

    3. This pug in our house is also narcissistic. I kid you not. And he can't wait to pee on the spot our other dog peed on. The pug PEES ON the other dog WHILE the other dog is peeing. Whoever bred them to look as they do and have the facial anatomy they have has a sick since of humor. This pug blows his nose and sprays snot all over. He whipes his face on padded furniture and leaves disgusting black stuff. I think I read it was the Chinese who created the pug breed and my guess is they figured out how to cross a dog with a pig.

      Delete
    4. First off 1.) I have a pug and he entertains himself, just fine? He's a dog; plays with his toys when we aren't playing with him and he chews on bones we give him - dog behavior. 2.) If you're complaining about how much your dog is an asshole - probably your fault. You don't know how to raise a good dog. You don't just buy a dog and hope he/she turns out OK? Try that method with human kids and see how they turn out.

Also, I don't understand the people saying pugs are constantly hyper. My pug just turned 1 and he's the most laid back dog I've ever met and he's still considered a puppy. Stop getting your dogs from puppy mills - that's the problem.

I don't understand people who complain about how shitty their dog is. This is your fault, not the dogs; you're the adult who was supposed to take the initiative to raise a living creature.

    5. I absolutely agree with Marizzle.
My pug is perfectly healthy and happy (and yes! I can tell. She doesn't need to write me a pop song about how happy she is to show me). She's not constantly struggling with her "disgusting" and "painful" existence, she plays with her toys, she's friendly with other dogs and people, she doesn't make "horrible noises", she sleeps like a baby, she's smart, active and loving.
Every dog needs training and care.
When I go to the vets I'm not surrounded by pugs in the waiting room.
Should I abandon my dog because you've met pugs with health issues (most, caused by the owners who don't want to educate themselves and are too lazy to care)?
Next time you see a dog acting "bad" think about the person taking care of it, not the breed.

  8. I love pugs, they are cute. But I have the same issues as you described when I think of owning one or other small, too inter-breed dogs. I can't understand the logic behind the need to breed dogs that will be sick and not wanting to get some other genes into the pool that yes, would make the breed less distinct, bigger but would also allow dogs for more comfortable life. So nice pics of pugs on the internet for me and some non-breed dog to be adopted in future.

  10. I've seen some nasty pugs, but I've also seen some really healthy pugs. I'm aware of their breathing problems, but I haven't seen any of those other issues, just the awkward eyes that look absolutely foul. This is really sad and I'm glad I didn't adopt a pug :(

    ReplyDelete
  11. I dislike pugs as well. To me they are repulsive little creatures that I am afraid to touch because of their constant munching on themselves and crusted cock eyes. Not to mention their foul smell. To be snorted on by a pug is the absolute worst feeling in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Their noises gross me out. And I'd a dog needs to get it's nose cut open to breathe, it shouldn't be alive. (I know not all pugs need this). I love all other dog breeds (even though I am also against English bulldog breeding) but these poor little mistakes shouldn't be the way they are. They live their life in ignorant agony

  13. My pug has the sweetest personality, maybe you have to own and keep them around a bit to see that come out. When I first got my pug it did take time to warm up to her because she did lack personality, but now its as if she is my child. I agree with most of what you have to say, but regardless of how much you or other hate them, they are still here. It's not their fault that humans have exploited them so, they don't deserve mistreatment just because they have medical issues. If people would look up information about pugs before getting one a lot of problems wouldn't exist because you would know that they are very expensive animals. Since getting my pug she has had a ear surgery due to years of infection, she has had a surgery on her nose and palate so she can breathe with ease. She takes maintenance, daily eye drops, medication to prevent skin infections and expensive food to prevent skin allergy's. I adopted her in July 2012 and I have spent over 5,000 on her surgery, monthly alone I am spending 50-100 dollars on food and meds. So yea there's a lot to be taken care of but its all worth it to me, I love my pug.. had I adopted any other dog I would love them the same as well.

  14. I've never been a pug lover until I got one. From my experience, they are one of the sweetest and most tolerant breeds. They aren't gross, but almost infant like with their needs and noises. They don't smell horrid at all unless you do not bathe your pug, smell isn't an issue. In fact I know a lab whom always smells like dirt and sweat no matter if she's clean or not. However, pugs do have many health problems; some can be prevented with responsible breeding, some detected earlier on with testing, and some must be dealt with once symptoms are exhibited. No matter, they are still a great and lovely breed just as I feel the same way about Old English Mastiffs and Jack Russell Terriers. There's only one breed I cannot stand and that's Chihuahuas as I've met too many whom are aggressive, bite, are mean, anti social, piss & poo everywhere, always yapping, and not very bright.

  21. i just came across this post.. and you are completly correct. The 2008 pug was bred with an extremely squished face. They can't breath! but every pedigree has genetic faults. From the big breeds with hip problems, boxers with heart conditions, and the worst I have yet to see the sherpai..so many problems. The fact of the matter is that all breeds have issues i see them everyday too but i have to stand up for the pug. I personally know a breeder that only breeds pugs with longer snouts and is keeping that line of pugs going.

    1. When will you people learn that there is an astronomical difference between a health problem that was inadvertantly bred into a breed as a cling on which can easily be avoided
with testing and a health problem that is directly caused by the features that a dog is selected for, or do you really think that pugs would have such trouble breathing if they had a longer snout or would have so many back problems if breeders did not select for the "highly desirable" double twist tail which is caused by hemivertibrae which also causes a slough of other health issues including but not limited to weakness in the hind legs and incontinence.

    1. You do realize this was written by a veterinary technician, right? Not a veterinarian. If you don't like what she has to say, don't read it. Or maybe follow you own mothers advice, sweet pea. You have no idea what it's like to treat small dogs. As a technician, we see a whole other side to these animals. The owners get to play and pamper these things, while we 'work' on them, because it's our job to help them feel better. It makes us sad when we are constantly shown the stupidity of humans by what they choose to breed for in a "dog" or any other animal for that matter. The animals suffer. And we hate seeing suffering animals.

If you take good care of them, like any should SMART dog owner do they are really great dogs. There are many ways that you can avoid getting their eyes poked ..just take the time to be RESPONSIBLE. And before I get blasted * don't read if you don't like it * , it doesn't matter if it's only a vet tech writing . It's very unprofessional and shows the ignorance of some people . That people like you encourage such despicable practices. No this vet tech is not ignorant. They know what problems these dogs have to deal with, how much these dogs have to suffer and for what? Because people think that such exaggerated features are *cute*. There are plenty of dogs out there that are not so inherently unhealthy and are just as good as companions if not more so. Dogs that don't have to struggle for each breath they take. How can someone who truly loves dogs find a face attractive when it means that the dog will suffer for it's entire life unless it has surgery to correct the travesty that is it's face? You call yourself a dog lover, yet you would encourage the continued suffering of many dogs. This kind of breeding is a socially acceptable form of animal abuse, plain and simple. We do not pick and choose. We only hate the breeds that have issues that are directly caused by their phenotype. The breeding of pug's and other breeds like them needs to stop.

  33. My pug is two years old and the most gentle dog I have ever met. Pugs are not all overweight and prone to breathing issues. A lot has to do with lifestyle, my puggie has a longer snout and it is a benefit to him. I personally would never own a different breed and yes I have vast experience of owning other types as my parents bred dachshunds for many years.
I think before you start verbally badmouthing pug owners who comitt to their dogs 100%, you might take issue with unscrupulous breeders who profit from the upsurge in dog ownership across all breeds. Personally I think this type of post is a disgrace to the profession, maybe you could do a series of all the vulnerabilities particular breeds have, that would be informative, this post is not..

  34. I hope you get thrown out of your job for discriminating against pugs, they are one of the oldest breeds of dogs there is and highly intelligent. They don't lap up like other dogs and do as they please, that's their unique personality. I have 3 pugs and they are the best thing that could have happened in my life. they bring such joy to everyone they encounter.

    1. Amen. My pugs have TONS of personality, and are the best companions.

      Delete
    2. Yes pugs are an older breed, however until the past 50 or so years, they also actually had a snout and therefore could actually breathe without stuggling for it so to say it is an old breed is pointless because they were not then as they are now. Also, the vet tech who wrote this is not discriminating, no, they stated at the end that they resent the owners and breeders of such unhealthy beings. They are obviously sick and tired of seeing these dogs in pain simply because people like you think they're cute. You're all horrible people who laugh at your dogs pain and think it cute.

    3. My SO got a rescue that stays at my house 5 nights a week. I never liked "little dogs," and pugs in particular I thought were not "cute," but dumb-looking, dumb-in-fact dogs and - here's how it turned out.

There's something innocent and sweet about the dog - she loves and wants to be loved - so that's on the plus side. She is too dumb to know or learn how annoying others find the habits she won't correct, just "wags" her body - wags it and looks at us with that dumb looking face.

I want to love the dog, but the stupid / stubborn / gross out factor is so off-putting, that I can't believe I'm stuck with this dumb stupid faced dog.

In fairness, she's obviously a puppy mill dog. But I had another PMD that wasn't "gross" like this one is. This dog is inappropriate, embarrassing, and the fact that she never learns has caused our other dogs to mimic some of her disgusting habits, while she NEVER imitates their appropriate behavior.

Where to begin? Probably the sniffing. Not just other dog butts, but also dog penises. Sniffing as long as they allow, and sniffing CONSTANTLY. These are not stranger dogs but housemates, so must you really sniff every day? Apparently yes. I just want to smack your stupid face. Truly.

Other dogs' neck fur is also endlessly interesting, and the pug can lean into and smell other dogs' neck fur for daaaaaays. Zero boundaries, fails to see signals that other dog is not interested, has had enough attention, or that a "break" is sometimes good. No game, no boundaries. #Stalker.

Next is "hoovering" the floor, the ground, whatever - trolling with her flat face and gobbling up tumbleweeds of stray dog fur to eat. Or whatever else disgusting thing she can smash her smooshed face into, suck up, and let hang from the side lip of her mouth.

Then the eyes. Bulging, glaucoma-looking eyes that never hint at intelligent thought. Daily "tears" and wipes help the clouds that cover and float across these eyes, but I've never seen a dog's eyes so covered in - whatever this is. It's really sad and awful, and without daily care surely leads to permanent vision damage. But there's no cure for the vapid look of pugs when they stand and stare, because their tiny brain has frozen.

Face creases are also a hotbed for sweat, bacteria, and pimples, so these need to be treated every day with wipes. What other breed requires this? Gross.

By FAR the most loathed, ridiculous thing is the "potty game." This stubborn ass dog will NOT pee or poop outside, no way no day, no matter how long we walk, play, catch ball, coach, lure with treats, beg - it's not happening, no way no day. She is manipulative enough though to "fake" pee and squat, but no actual pee! Then looks up with that stupid, head-cock face of "what are we doing here?" Then go sniff the ground and run circles because the ground covered in dog pee is fascinating.

  35. Pugs are disgusting. They were always the ones to have projectile diarrhea and who would lay and walk in it at the animal hospital I worked at. They would poop on you, get their nasty eye crap on you, and always act entitled. NO MORE PUGS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I believe this vet tech should find another job! How dare you put all pugs in the sqme catagory. All dogs have different personalities just as other dogs. I have owned variety of dogs throughout my life, mainly labs and German shepard. Also beagals and hound dogs. Also have had the opportunity to dog seat for others. As of right now I own two Pugs. All my dogs have had one issue or another. All dogs like humans do get sick or have genetic health issues. Actually of all my dogs, my pugs are the healthiest. Really do not trust anyone that states Hate. All I can say to this vet tech is...wAtchison out for Karma...because it is ear marked for you.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow...I'must sad that you own this Pug you are talking so poorly about...poor thing 😐

    ReplyDelete
  38. When I saw my first pug as a child, it made me want to be a veterinarian. But then I found out there was more to the job than just putting puppies to sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The writer of this is an idiot. I got my pug from the pound and he has been the best thing that ever happend to me. I had no interest in a pug before I got him and he is amazing. I've many other dogs growing up and his personality trumps them all. Let people enjoy their dogs and just do you job.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree, dont be a pug hater... BTW if you clean the folds those issue are non-existiant. If you bath your pug and keep its weight under control skin issues are not a thing beyond normal...

    I LOVE my pug...

    ReplyDelete
  41. The fact that you HAVE to clean the folds of a pug show that it's a problem. I understand grooming, but that's like the people on "My 600lbs Life" who have to get every single crease in their fat when they shower.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Pugs are annoying little mutts. They snort all of the time, have snot coming out of their noses, is that not enough. You can't pet one, because they are all over you, snorting. They are ugly, but that is just a personal opinion. Their bugged out eyes are weird looking.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Fellow vet professional here...

Food for thought. When expressing your opinion, you can either rant and sound the battle cry for people already on your side or find a way to engage people of different views and inform them of your experience and knowledge.

I don't hate pugs, I hate the people that breed them.

And not that your blog will perhaps ever make a difference, but if you want it to, it's the people that breed extreme phenotypes and the people that buy them that need the education. To see the injustice and horror that it can be to be a pug.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have had pugs for 20+ years. This article is rubbish as it relates to their personalities and behaviors. OK on the inbreeding health issues—I understand. But to shower the breed with ignorant (yes, IGNORANT) hate means this author has no business caring for animals.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thank you. If I was a dictator, pugs would be illegal. Anyone inflicting or loving that much suffering done to animal would go to camps. Disfiguring a wolf, to make them small and flat faced like a human baby, to indulge their maternal instincts... that's disgusting but at least they're not reproducing more dumb humans. Thank you for not being one of them and try to educate the masses. Pug lovers don't love pugs or they wouldn't be able to ignore that much agony, and they deserve worse than hatred. If you want something flat faced, buy a cat!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Non heater people that don't like pugs they don't like all god creation. Pugs are good with children. They are very loyal dogs my pug that I had will I was a kid it save all my family from pit bull that was in are yard and the pit bull was scared of pug.all dogs have health problems. All the pugs I had was healty. If don't like pugs thelvetech maybe you should find new job.

    ReplyDelete
  47. You guys are ridiculous! All dogs have problems of some type big or small. If you get your pug from a good breeder it won't have any of those problems. My pug was purposely bred to have the nose stick out a bit, this helps with breathing... my pug has absolutely no breathing problems. Her folds never get infected as long as you wipe their eyes every once in a while. My pug doesn't drag her feet, instead she prances around on the pads of her feet. She definitely has a personality and the best thing about pugs is that each one has their own personality. Do your research. Doesn't mean this vet is wrong but if you do the research and make sure you get your pug from a professional breeder, your pug could not have any issues at all and live a nice, long, happy, PAIN FREE life. You don't have to think they're cute, but if they are bred right it is not inhumane.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The problem is that the majority of them are not bred right. You will be hard pressed to find a good pug breeder outside of Germany these days. Why Germany? Because that is where retromops were created and as far as I can tell, Germany is the only place you can find breeders of retromops. Retromops are the only "good" pugs.

      Delete
  48. I have a pug and i love her. She is healthy and has no breathing problems. I got her from a breeder with over 20 years experience and payed 1,500€. The health issues with the majority of pugs is caused by puppy farms, people buying cheap dogs, and stupid people who think its fun to breed their own pugs without knowledge. My Pugs ancestry can be traced back to her great grandparents. She is friendly, laidback, good with kids, can entertain herself just fine. She is the best dog you could wish for.

  49. Lmao. The comments can be neatly divided into three categories: Sensible, incredibly butthurt, and...whatever category "non hater" is in. Total lack of any sort of critical thinking skill, perhaps?

    Incredible.

    1. LOL I second that. I was actually thinking the same, about all three categories.

  50. Interesting read as I go through everyone's comments. I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion and we don't all have to agree to what someone believes. I personally have the best of both worlds. I am a licensed registered veterinary technician, a VT instructor, and a pug mom. No I did not go out and buy my pug, I rescued her through my ER clinic as her previous owner relinquished due to costs for HBC injuries. Are they cute, well that's a personal choice... I felt very similar to this blog before actually having a pug in my life. It is hard to understand the love and commitment these little faces give you every day because how they act in practice vs at home can be two very different things. My pug is a love at home, but a terror with nail trims...if we haven't owned one and all we see are the problem children coming into practice, well you either love or hate what you are used to. For those out there that feel like at vet techs feel the same way - no simply not true. There are many of us out there who will love your pugs even when they sneeze in our face during an exam. To each their own and I appreciate your heart felt concern for better breeding management practices. I think we have to advocate for our profession and it's never easy taking a side that brings so much emotion out from others. Good luck on your blog! We need more vt presence online :)

  51. This is not meant to be hateful because I don't *hate* pugs but if you're going to go through the trouble of getting a pug and "making it your child," why not just adopt a disabled foster child? Help him/her prepare for a future where they can be somewhat autonomous (if not completely). For the amount of time and money you spend on the dog, it would probably be a better service to your community (and overall society) to help another individual, who actually can have a future after those 10-12 years you spend on helping them. Sure, you won't get to show them off on your social media in the same "cute" way as you do with dressing a pug but it's likely they won't piss and shit all over your home, even years after training them. Food for thought.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Some pugs act in stupid ways because their owners don't bother to train them properly. My niece has 2 pugs and she loves to let them climb all over her and the furniture because it is so "cute." Now she has taken off to another country to "study" for a year or 3 and left these two nuisances to be cared for by her mother and me. They gave one of my cats a heart attack (yes, he died) and my sister is at her wits end trying to take care of the pugs in addition to her own dog who is having anxiety issues due to the pugs as well as working full time. As far as I can see, the main problem with pugs is their irresponsible needy owners.

    ReplyDelete
  53. My peoples {in my King Julian voice} try not to blame each other, I know we humans are sometimes as$holes, but I know there are people out there who aren’t just cut out for being a j£rk anymore, we just want peace, take care of a pet & live our lives. But with a pug, you must be asking for too much for yourselves.

As I write you, I am finding a home for my black pug. I got him, trained him how to walk without a leash, he walks on the busy sidewalks in a city, gets to the stop signs & waits for me to catch up with am a little behind. I thought him all these & more. Introduced him to people and other animals so he is familiar with them and he had a good time growing up, he’s 4 now.

I did everything for this dog, but yet he resents me, since I got into a relationship 2years ago, knocked up my girlfriend & now have a 4 month old baby girl. This dog too needy to an extreme fault, oh common. I didn’t get a dog to completely loose my life.

His jealousy level is extreme, I had dogs growing up, nothing like this evil piece of sh!t.

Would rather starve to get attention, would do anything to spoil the mood in the house. Will go to the park and walk with complete strangers with tail down to make you look bad, smh lol!

People are telling the truth about this evil animal, maybe it wasn’t all their fault and could have been the breeding issue, so when we write here about this problems with pugs, it’s not necessarily “hate” it’s just the extremity of how they suck out your energy all for themselves.

And you who is supporting “bad energy dogs” maybe if you look into your own life, you might still stand a chance to live, if you get rid of that dog that consumes you all day. You’re welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  54. This goes for everyone. Remember we are all energy creatures, humans, animals & plants. Be watchful, not everything that looks cute sometimes wishes you well.
They don’t have to have an innate bad intention, but they will suck you dry till you drop dead because you are trying to be fair.

If your dog or human isn’t trying to share life with you, cut them loose. That piece of shit isn’t a sharer.

  55. I have had very little experience with Pugs. I was a reg'd Lab breeder and have had a number of other breeds in my life (I'm 65). Helping out a neighbour whose daughter's family had a house fire, I offered to babysit their 5 y.o. pure black Pug and 10 y.o. black Lab. Both purebred and both females. And they are both well-behaved and adorable. Not as well-behaved as if I had raised them, but not everybody can devote that much time to their pets. The Lab is typically Labby-very accomodating and forbearing with her younger and more excitable sister. I disagree with some of the disparaging remarks about Pugs. Although, as I mentioned, I don't have a great deal of experience with the little dogs, but I feel that I do know dogs pretty well. About the breathing and overbred facial characteristics, I do have a certain amout of agreement; but personality-wise, I find this middle-aged female to have quite a sweet disposition.
Yes, at times she might be a bit much, but that seems to be settling down more as I give this pair a good amount of attention.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree completely. It's pretty sick that something so unnatural and unhealthy is considered "cute" and "funny".

Then go sniff around the ground, running circles, because ground covered in dog pee is fascinating.

Finally, the dual, manipulative behavior. I get one behavior when SO is here, but another when SO is not. This leads to a push/pull division of parenting a #shitbirddog who knows full well what “get in the bed” means, yet acts mystified and trots around in circles after a basic command.

That’s my report on pugs, you’ve been warned.

  65. I hate them so much I just want to kick it around my house. Punch it. Burn its butthole with a torch and hear it scream. I really hate their faces and backside. Then I'll go to a dog fighting string and pay a pittbull owner to maul that pug to death. That's how much I hate pugs. Capture them all and put them on their own island, Thier is that statement better pug lovers.
